About Mapping Fields for Delimited Text Files

Field mapping is the process of identifying the fields in the delimited text file to use in DAZzle for the Address Book or for printing. Whenever you import a delimited text file into DAZzle, you must map the fields between your text file and those in DAZzle.

• Note: Before you can map fields, you must open your delimited text file through the import process. For more information, see Import Addresses into your DAZzle Address Book. After you open your delimited text file, you can map delimited text fields.

DAZzle shows the fields in the list file on the left and the types of fields that DAZzle can use on the right. You need to make a connection (or map) between each text file field and the DAZzle field. There should be a one-to-one connection—a mapping—between each text file field and the DAZzle field.

As you map fields, the Sample Address box shows you how the first address in the file appears when printed. Use this as a guide to correctly select each field type. Make sure that you select every field from the list file that should appear on the envelope or label.

• Tips!
  • Some fields in your text file may be mapped as more than one type.

  For example, if you have a field that contains the entire name of the person, it could be mapped as either a Last Name or Address Line 1 type.

  • Do not select an Address Line for a field that only contains a City or State or ZIP. Make sure that you select the type of field exactly (for example, City, State, or ZIP Code).
  • If you have a file where the City and State are in the same field, select City as the type.
  • Make sure you select all of the address fields in your file. For example, if the first address only uses one of two possible address lines, make sure you still map both fields.
